Year 2

Welcome to Year 2’s class page from myself, Mrs Morgan. This year I am very excited to be teaching Year 2 and am looking forward to getting to know all of the children. This year we will be supported in class by Miss Bird for four mornings a week and Miss Stedman for one morning. Mrs Hayes will be teaching Year 2 on a Wednesday morning.

On a Wednesday we are also very lucky to have music with Miss Mallinson.

We will be encouraging the children to become more independent and supporting them throughout the year.  We work really hard as a team to ensure the children have a fun, creative and engaging curriculum while preparing them for transition into the Juniors.

Things to know about

Year 2 is a very important year for the children! We have a full timetable and lots to fit in but we make sure we have fun along the way.

With all the work we are doing in class, we will get homework too…

Reading – We are expected to read to an adult every night and have what we read recorded in our Reading Diaries. We should be reading a minimum of 3 pages each evening. In Year 2 we have decided that we must read our reading book 3 times before it is changed. This is to help with our comprehension skills.

Spellings – We’ll also be given spellings to learn. These will be given to us on a Friday and will be stuck into our spelling books. They should be learnt during the week. We often have a fun quiz on a Friday to see what we can remember!

Homework – Mrs Morgan will give us homework to do each week. This will be set on a Friday on Seesaw and is due back the following Friday. We’ll be given either English and / or Maths to do and it will follow on from the work we have been doing in class.

Times Tables – Later in the year we will start to work on our times tables knowledge. Each week, on a Friday a set of times tables will be stuck into the children’s diaries. These are to be learnt throughout the week. The children will take part in a fun quiz the following Friday to see what they can remember! It is nothing to worry about and ends up being great fun!
