Year 6
Welcome to our Year 6 class page where you can keep up to date with all of the relevant information.
Year 6 are taught by their class teacher, Mrs Spacey, as well as Mrs Smith, teaching assistant. Mrs Hayes teaches during Mrs Spacey’s release time during the week. Miss Mallinson takes us for our music lesson.
In Year 6 at The Willows, our children grow as independent and self-confident learners who are ready to tackle new challenges as they prepare for high school. We firmly believe in engaging and cross curricular learning here in Year 6.

Things to know about
Year 6 is a very busy year, ultimately preparing the children for their next step in education – high school. There is a lot for the children to look forward to in Year 6, but we do have high expecatations for our school’s oldest children – with regards to attitude, behaviour and homework.
Role models: In Year 6, our children set the standard for all other children in the school. The Year 6 children will all have a Reception Buddy, who they mentor and support throughout the year. On top of this, the Year 6 children will have positions of responsibility around school and monitor jobs within the classroom to promote independence, leadership, organisation and communication.
Homework: The Year 6 children will receive English and Maths homework to complete on Teams every week. Homework will be set on Friday and will be submitted by the following Friday.
Reading: It is the expectation that Year 6 children read every night. We cannot express just how important daily reading is at home to develop the children’s reading speed and reading fluency. The children will pick books from our extensive class library which is packed with high interest books linking to our topics. Reading diaries must be signed daily to show home reading, though by Year 6 we trust the children to do this themselves.

Religious Education
Religious Education
At The Willows we see Religious Education as a way of becoming more human as we grow to love ourselves, love each other and love Jesus Christ. We understand that Jesus challenges us to be ‘perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect’, by the strength of our faith, hope, love and compassion. Therefore, we aspire to see ourselves and each other as ‘precious in His eyes’.

British Values
British Values
At The Willows, we uphold and teach pupils about British values as directed under Ofsted guidance, September 2024, which states that school 'prepares pupils for life in modern Britain effectively, developing their understanding of the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.'
